Veteran comedian/actor Palito died on Monday at 7:05 AM at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) in Manila. He was 76.
He complained of severe stomach pain last Tuesday and was rushed to Imus Family Hospital in Cavite.
“Galing siya sa casino kasi doon siya nagta-trabaho. May combo doon, doon siya tumutugtog. Pagdating sa bahay halos hindi na makalakad at nanghihina na… kaya dinala na namin siya sa ospital,” his son, Jhune, told “SNN: Showbiz News Ngayon.”
Palito was well-known for his thin frame like a toothpick which earned him the screen name Palito. Reynaldo “Palito” Hipólito (1934-April 12, 2010) in real life, started his acting career in the 1960s. He starred in several movies in the Philippines, and his career came to peak during the 80′s when he starred in American action film spoof of Rambo which is entitled as “Rambuto”, and “James Bone” a spoof of James Bond.
He was also seen in several Filipino movies in a supporting role, most especially in Pinoy comedy-horror films wherein he always portray the zombie character due to his looks and thin body.
The true to life story of Palito was featured in Maalaala Mo Kaya on June 17, 2004. Vhong Navarro played Palito in this drama, focusing on Palito’s life story as a survivor during the Japanese occupation and his life as an actor/comedian.
His last movie ‘Enterpool: Senior Citizen in Action’, an independent movie was released last August 24, 2005.
