Gillian Chung, a Hong Kong-based actress and singer, comes back after spending two years hiatus trying to heal from the sex photo scandal.
“I work hard and get encouragement from many friends. The most important thing in my life is to live happily,” she said in an interview with China Daily today, July 22.
Gillian Chung, a former member of the pop band Twins, was involved in the “Edison Chen sex photo scandal“. This was around January and February 2008 when erotic photos of Edison Chen with a number of Hong Kong starlets were stolen and was released online.
These tarnished her “squeaky-clean image,” and she apologized to the public for being naive and silly. She hasn’t received any movie offers in the two years since the scandal.
Now, she is back in the spotlight again with a new movie called “The Fantastic Water Babes.
“The Fantastic Water Babes” was shot in 2007, one year before the scandal broke, and was set for release in the summer of 2008. The film was suspended due to the scandal.
In The Fantastic Water Babes, Chung plays a woman who is cheated by her boyfriend and takes revenge to regain her self-esteem.
“The experience of the character is kind of similar to mine,” said Chung.
Gillian Chung becomes more outgoing and talkative, doing media interviews, although she refuses to talk about the sex photo scandal.
“I feel better to be myself like this,” said Chung.
Gillian Chung cautiously returned to public life about a year ago, appearing in advertisements and attended charity activities.
“Everything will pass,” said Chung.
