Bob Arum confirmed that Manny Pacquiao will face Antonio Margarito for the vacant WBC junior middleweight championship on Nov. 13, after Floyd Mayweather failed to negotiate for a match againts Pacquiao.
Margarito and his trainer, Javier Capetillo, was suspended for one year for allegedly tampering Margarito’s hand wraps, prior to his January 2009 bout with Shane Mosley, in which he loses. This effectively banned Margarito from boxing in the United States, pending investigation. Margarito claimed he didn’t know about the tampering of the wraps, while Capetillo admitted the wrongdoing.
Bob Arum plans to hold Pacquiao vs. Margarito in Monterrey, Mexico if Margarito’s license in the US can’t be restored.

Margarito is a big welterweight with a chin like a fire hydrant. It would be a serious challenge for Pacquiao, much more difficult of a fight than the DeLa Hoya fight. I would think Margarito would be the heavy favorite, but then again I thought DeLa Hoya would pose problems for Manny, and I was dead wrong. Pacquiao destroy DeLa Hoya with an ease that was terrifying. I think Manny Pacquiao is ready for a real welterweight, but I think it had better be someone other than Margarito. Margarito for me is slow like Dela Hoya so I guess Pacman will have a chance. Yes Marga is big, strong and durable but he can only be effective if he can catch Manny inside the ring. A prime Dela Hoya for me would easily beat a prime Marga but a prime Dela Hoya would have a hard time with Pac Man if I based it on Dream Match.
Manny vs Antonio this is a great challenge for the both of them. Both are at the peaks of their career. Antonio is good, but Manny has already proven that he is unbeatable, fearless, skillful and a great giant killer. Antonio is the last great Mexican world champion standing. When Manny beats Margarito like other great Mexican champions, he will be considered the best in the world. With this fight there is no question that Manny will shatter Oscars vs Floyd’s record ppv of 2.44 million. Its time to shock the world again. I would think that Pacquiao would take early rounds with his speed and proven ability to get inside bigger men with footwork and head movement. However Pacquiao has been hurt by fighters with far less power than Margarito like Juan Manuel Marquez and eventually Manny would slow down or Antonio would catch him and overwhelm the smaller man. I haven’t seen margarito fights but If he’s that good. I don’t think pacman will back down a fight against margarito. Pacquiao is the kind of fighter who likes to fight stronger opponents. He likes to be the underdog. Just like when he first fought barrera when he (barrera) was on his prime (2003).The challenge like this will make pacman more excited more motivated to train harder to become the best boxer that he can be.
Could well be fight of the year, so far Pacquiao has shown he has never been afraid to stand toe to toe with every fighter he has faced.
Could he do this with a man of Margaritto stature.
That alone will be something to behold, small 5’6 guy fighting a 5’11 guy outweighing him by over a stone but the little guy is not just out boxing him he overpowering him, standing there and trading and making Marg take the backward steps and folding under the pressure.
Pacquiao is too goo for his own good, if Juan Diaz said he was going to take on Margaritto people would say it was a mammoth task and Diaz could well take a beating. This is the same Diaz who the same people say Pacquiao ducked.
This is going to be Pacquiao toughest fight and the Pacquiao vs Margarito could be FOTY
Margarito is a smart and strong boxer but For his upcoming fight for pacquiao I think he will going to loss.
Margarito needs to fight Paul Williams again if he wants to be considered great. Now, as much as me and Babyface are starving for that match, Margarito doesn’t have to fight PW right away. I can understand , if not condone, making as much money as you can in the sport. Even though Williams would give Margarito the biggest pay day of his career, if Margo beats Mosley and Cotto, and Williams beats Winks, that is the perfect marination for a salivating rematch between the two! I find it kind of sad that Williams won the first fight and now he needs a rematch to get recognition. It will all come down to the two guys fighting each other. Most likely at 154.
Now to Pacquiao vs Margarito I think Pac has got a shot of beating Margarito. They both have amazing stamina, but Manny has tons of speed. If Margo can land to the body early or mid fight Manny is in trouble. If Manny can mix it up and get in and out Margos loosing a decision. What about Pacquiao vs Paul Williams?? haha
Now time has changed, Pacquiao vs Margarito this is a real fight! Both aggressive guys, both have different styles, and both have power to finish fights.
