Former NBA star Lorenzen Wright was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds on Wednesday. His body was found in a wooded area of southeast Memphis.
Wright who played in the league for more than a decade, went missing on July19. He recently flew from Atlanta to Memphis to visit friends and his six children, friends said. He was scheduled to drive back to the Atlanta area July 19, with his children and a friend. He was last seen at about 2 a.m. July 19, leaving his ex-wife’s Whisperwood Drive home.
Police are investigating a 911 hangup call from Wright’s cellphone made July 19 that recorded loud gunshots.
Sources said that Wright likely had a lot of cash on him. Police have not said if robbery is a possible motive in the slaying. His friends have said they don’t know why anyone would harm Wright.
Hundreds of Wright’s friends and fans, rushed to the scene Wednesday where the body was found.
Lorenzen Wright joined NBA in 1996 as the Los Angeles Clippers’ No. 7 draft pick. He joined the Grizzlies in 2001 and spent five seasons in Memphis.
He leaves behind two daughters and four sons, ages 4 to 15.
