Congratulations! Miss Philippines Maria Venus Raj, for being the 4th runner-up on Miss Universe 2010!
Maria Venus Raj was asked by judge William Baldwin,
Question:
“What is one big mistake that you’ve made in your life and what did you do to make it right?”
Answer:
“Thank you so much, Sir for that wonderful question,”
“You know what, Sir in my 22 years of existence I can say that there is nothing major major, I mean, problem that I have done in my life. Because I am very confident with my family, with the love that they are giving to me. So, thank you so much that I am here, thank you thank you so much,”
What do you think of her “MAJOR MAJOR” answer?

it’s seems to many that with her answer, she’s being arrogant or too proud of herself… well not everyone knows how poor their family was and the things she did to be able to study in school… in such a young age of 22, I think it’s ok for someone not to have a major mistake in life where all you just do is to make your life better
I expected myself to get a better answer knowing the experiences she’s had. If you were on stage and having a great time to have been picked among 5 top list. Who would think of major problems be asked of you? She was not arrogant — you say that coz you know something about her.
She answered the question in her own words that she has no major major problem she’s ever had because she had the love of her family. What is arrogant about that?
Her answer was heartfelt and that was all that mattered. She actually lectured us on the importance of family. Perfect answer. The other four candidates were also beautiful and intelligent. Good job Ms. Venus!
go venus goo…… i like u so much
She did answer the question, but it didn’t have any ooomph or relevance. She should have used that question to relate to her advocacies. She could just have said, the reason she joined Miss U is to correct the mistake of being passive towards the issues of poverty in the Philippines. It’s just so sad that this has become our waterloo for the past 20+ years — beauty without a purpose…
Her answer to the question is very typical of a filipina – answering in English with a tagalog accent. She should have trained in the call center before she competed. It’s a bit disappointing since we have all the resources here in the Philippines to help her in the competition specially during the final interview. Her answer to the question should have been “Problems arise because of the wrong choices and the mistakes that we do in our lives. As a 22 year old Filipina, I haven’t had any major mistakes in my life. I am not sure if I am supposed to be happy with that but growing up without knowing my father and being poor made me very focused of what I want to become. I am not saying that I am perfect but what I’m trying to say is that mistakes are a part of life. All of us make it in one way or another. Without it, we will never know what is right. What is important is that we know how to forgive and forget, love again and in the end become better individuals”
I know her personally and from that point I knew that she is not okey no more. She is on her neck. We can never say that she doesn’t deserve to be there or someone could have answered it better, because we never know, if someone else was sent to represent the country, we might be again part of the backstage girls. She made it through. We have seen how beautiful Venezuela and Ireland is as they are, but still Venus was able to get through after them. She had proven herself to everyone and we should be proud of her instead. It is just too easy for people to criticize her but with the height of the competition, wouldn’t you feel nervous at all? Indeed, it wasn’t the best answer yet still I am contented with what she got. Her victory is our victory.
Correct ! The question is too generalized . anyone would be confused to answer that question within 30 seconds .. We should be proud of her .. She is a strong woman in spite of the issues she had been, she made it to the top ..
Bluejake and Anton are right.
She could have been trained to answer questions that are relevant to her being a beauty queen.
She could have said that she would like to be be the voice of young women in the world and help them be aware and be proactive in the issues of the times like poverty.
She could have said that while she made no “major, major mistakes” in her life, she could have said that it is from mistakes that we learn more in life.
William Baldwin’s question was not unfair, it was very apt for a beauty queen. It was not a difficult question.
Her answer seemed to indicate that she is perfect, but no one is….She appeared not to be true to her herself.
She might as well have degraded the Filipinos with what
she answered. Kung hindi lng siya naging 4th-runner up eh siguradong
“bobo” at “walang kwenta” talaga ang maipapangalan sa kanya.
