The demolition of shanties near Trinoma Mall turned violent after angry residents of Sitio San Roque, Barangay Bagong Pag-Asa in Quezon City attacked MMDA and Police with stones and debris at around 8:45 a.m after they refused to vacate the area. The deadline for them to vacate the area ended Thursday. Part of EDSA near Trinoma was closed causing heavy traffic on the northbound lane of EDSA .
NHA have a relocation site for them in Rizal province but the residents refused to leave.
The city government and Ayala Corp. plans to develop a 340-hectare project or a P22-billion-project in Quezon City’s North Triangle area and turn it into a central business district modeled after the Makati business district.
16,000 families are affected because of the demolition.
All vehicles approaching the demolition site were asked to turn around and take Timog Avenue to Elliptical Road.
