Bibi Aisha, the mutilated Afghan woman whose nose and ears were cut off by her Taliban husband shows off her new nose.
As part of her eight-month rehabilitation, she received a prosthetic nose which she can attach by herself with the use of a special skin adhesive.
Grossman Burn Foundation offered her a free reconstructive surgery that will give her a permanent nose and ears. This could mean reconstructing her nose and ears using bone, tissue and cartilage from other parts of her body.
Aisha also received the first Enduring Heart award at a benefit for the Grossman Burn Foundation.
Bibi Aisha, 18, landed on the cover of TIME magazine‘s August 9 issue showing her mutilated face.
She was married to her Taliban husband as part of a “blood debt,” after her uncle killed one of her husband’s relatives. She was just 12 years old at that time.
Bibi Aisha tried to run away from her abusive husbands and in-laws but was caught. Talibans ordered the husband to slice her nose and ears.
ABC News reports;
“She was left for dead, she crawled to her uncle’s house, but he refused to help. Bibi staggered on to her grandfather’s house. He called her father. The local Afghan hospital was unable to treat her wounds, and suggested her father take her to the nearby U.S. military base, Forward Operating Base Ripley in Oruzgan province. ”
They transported Aisha to a secret shelter in Kabul and in August she was flown to the U.S. by the Grossman Burn Foundation to stay with a host family.
