Search engine giant Google announced that Chrome Notebooks powered by the new Google Chrome OS will be available for sale in the first half of 2011.
South Korea’s Samsung and Taiwan’s Acer are the first to build Chrome Notebooks but other manufacturers will follow.
Google Chrome OS is specifically designed for people who are always online and for those wants to experience the advantages of “cloud computing.” This means that Google Chrome OS relies heavily on the web apps, and it is faster and more secure because the applications, documents, and settings are stored safely in the cloud.

Google Chrome OS is still in beta and a pilot program was launched to test it by chosen individuals. The participants in the pilot program will receive a Cr-48 Chrome Notebook. It is a black simple notebook with 12-inch LCD display, full-size keyboard and oversized touchpad. It also has built-in Wi-Fi, 3G, and webcam for video chat. It boots for about 10 seconds and instantly resumes from sleep. It weighs 3.8 pounds with over eight hours and a week of standby time.
The browser is the only application in the Chrome Notebook.
