American Kennel Club, the largest purebred dog registry in the world added three new dog breeds to their registry, namely the Entlebucher Mountain Dog, Norwegian Lundehund, and Xoloitzcuintli.
Due to the addition of the three new dog breeds AKC now have 170 dog breeds on its list.
“The AKC is delighted to introduce these three distinct breeds to the public. Each loveable breed has a unique and diverse history and is a wonderful addition to the AKC,” said AKC Spokesperson Gina DiNardo.
The Entlebucher Mountain Dog is a native of Switzerland. This kind of dogs were used by Swiss farmers for herding in the Swiss Alps. It is medium-sized, strongly muscled, active, loyal to people familiar to him but slightly suspicious of strangers. Entles are best for active families.
The Norwegian Lundehund is a small Spitz type dog that originates from Norway. Originally used for hunting puffins along the Norwegian coast. It has six toes on each foot , can tip its head backward until it touches the back bone, these features help them to climb narrow cliff paths. They are a playful and loyal companion but are afraid of strangers if not socialized.
The Xoloitzcuintli is a native to Mexico. it is a rare breed and one of the world’s oldest, has a coated and hairless variety, are calm and make excellent companion. Xolos were considered sacred dogs by the Aztecs and believed that they can cure ailments. It is still considered a “healer” in remote Mexican and Central American Villages today.
