Japan was rattled anew by a 7.0 earthquake on April 11, 2011, one month after the twin disasters killed thousands of people in Japan and damaged Fukushima nuclear plant.
The aftershock hit the northeast coast 5:16 p.m. local time. After that, a tsunami warning was issued that was later cancelled.
The magnitude was originally reported at 7.1 then downgraded to 7.0, but according to U.S. Gological Survey the quake measured to a magnitude 6.6.
The epicenter of quake, was 88 km (56 miles) east of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant. Workers at the stricken nuclear plant were evacuated but work had resumed by nightfall.
In the latest news reports, one man was killed and thousands of households have no power.
This was the second strong aftershock reported this month of April, the first one which measured 7.1 happened on April 7, 2011.
