A funny incident happened in Kansas City Missouri after police responded to a call from a resident in the area saying they saw an alligator in their subdivision.
Officers saw the large alligator on Saturday evening, one of the officers shot it twice in the head as instructed, but there was a problem, the shots bounced off and it turned out the alligator was fake and was made of cement.
“It didn’t move,” Independence police spokesman Tom Gentry told the Associated Press. “They inched up closer and closer and discovered it was a mock-up of a real alligator made to look like it was real.”
According to reports, the property owner displayed the fake alligator to keep kids off his property.
A spokesman for the Missouri Department of Conservation assured that there are no alligators lurking in the area.
“There are no alligators around here, we are too far north, it’s too cold,” spokesman Bill Graham told Reuters.

You know, that’s not a half-bad idea! If something like that can fool the cops, it will definitely fool specific undesirable idiots whom I want nowhere near my property…or my neighborhood, for that matter. Sure is a lot more convincing than a “No Trespassing” sign!
Now all alligator ornaments will come with an orange nose.

Why did they have to shot it in the head? If it HAD be real, that would have been awful. What about animal control coming in or something, and moving the gator to a zoo? That way he could keep his life. Hopefully no real ones ever find themselves there.

Ron, it is normal to shoot them. A lot of states have a law that if it over a certain length, they kill them. I think it is 6 feet in Louisiana. I could be mistaken with that, but it is a very common practice to exterminate them.
You do not usually shoot them if they are not posing a threat to humans. They are usually moved. If it had been real it would have been very unusual and would have warranted an investigation by scientist to see how it got there and such. I bet the cop felt like an idiot after shooting an unarmed gator. I hope they reimbursed the landownner for the damages.
