Guinness World Records gave Junrey Balawing, a poor Filipino living in Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte Philippines a special gift during his 18th birthday on Sunday which coincides with Philippines Independence Day. Balawing was crowned as the new “Shortest Living Man.”
The official recognition was given by Guinness World Records editor-in-chief Craig Glenday and was witnessed by journalists and people of Sindangan town.
He measured 23.6 inches or 60 centimeters, clinching the title from the current title holder Khagendra Thapa Magar of Nepal who stands 26.4 inches or 67 centimeters tall.
Junrey’s joyful personality despite his condition amused the crowd, he is also the family’s lucky charm, according to his father he got a job after Junrey’s birth.
The family noticed that Junrey stopped growing when he reached the age of 1. He can’t stand for too long because of his weak knees. He has three younger siblings, all of them are of normal size.
