Test tube hamburgers are coming our way, thanks to a team of scientists making hamburgers made from a cow’s stem cells which they say will solve the problem of insufficiency of livestock in the ever growing population.
According to reports, Mark Post, professor of physiology at Maastricht University in the Netherlands, who is behind the project said that his team has successfully grown small strips of muscle tissue with cow cells and calf serum.
“In October we are going to provide a proof of concept showing out of stem cells we can make a product that looks, feels and hopefully tastes like meat,” Prof Post was quoted as saying.
Prof Post also said that the work is funded by an anonymous and extremely wealthy financer. In a report by the Telegraph, Prof Post claims that his wealthy investor is a household name with a reputation for “turning everything into gold”.
