Sharon Simmons, a Carrollton resident and a 55-year-old grandmother, wants to become a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader. If she makes it through the auditions, she will become the oldest cheerleader in the NFL.
The grandmother of two who works in commercial real estate is also a fitness competitor and an author. She said that it was her dream to become a cheerleader since the age of 22, but as a single mother she becomes busy with raising her daughter plus the fact that she lacks money, outfit, and experience.

“I thought about this when I was about 22 years old,” Simmons told The Dallas Morning News. “I was a single mom, and I wanted to do it.”
Now, after 33 years, no other circumstances can stop her from becoming a cheerleader. On May 5, Saturday, she auditioned for the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
“With me, it has been about the journey,” Simmons said. “It literally has been about the journey. I’ve met incredible people, I’ve learned so many new things.”
