MTV Video Music Awards handed out honors on Thursday with British boy band One Direction taking home three prizes, while Rihanna picked up the most coveted award of the night, the video of the year.
One Direction owned the night, drewing a lot of cheers from teenage fans. The group, a product of British version of TV singing contest “The X Factor,” won best pop video. They also won best new artist and the most share-worthy video award for their debut hit single “What Makes You Beautiful.”
To complete their first MTV VMA experience, the group also performed their latest single “One Thing” that gets fan-girls screaming.
Rihanna, who was leading the pack with five nominations came away with just one award, but it was the most important award of the night, the Video of the Year, for her song “We Found Love.”
The sexy singer who is now sporting a pixie hairstyle also rocked the house with her renditions of “Cockiness (Love It)” and “We Found Love” at the awards night.
