Apple debuts the long-awaited iPhone 5, a taller, thinner, and lighter model at a media event in San Francisco on Wednesday. The new iPhone, powered by the A6 chip, can operate on 4G LTE. Other new features include redesigned headphones, a smaller connector, and mapping software.
The new iPhone is now boasting a bigger screen – sporting a 4-inch “retina” display, previous models have 3.5-inch display. Even if it is taller it is also thinner and lighter than the previous iPhone 4S.
It comes with 4G LTE capability that will allow it to connect to a high-speed wireless data networks. Apple integrated its newest “A6” processor and “iOS 6,” its latest mobile operating system, to the iPhone 5. However, Apple already killed the popular Google Maps app from iOS 6, so expect a new built in Maps app on the iPhone 5. It will also arrive with an 8 megapixel camera that can take panoramic views and an upgraded voice assistant Siri.
For sure, some of owners of old iPhone accessories like speaker docks and car chargers that use the classic connector will be annoyed by the new smaller connecting cord called “Lightning.” They must by an adapter which Apple will sell so the new phone will be able to connect to accessories designed for the old phones.
Battery life, one of the main problems of smartphone users, can support 8 hours of 4G Web browsing and 10 hours if Wi-fi connections are used.
