Tropical storm “Karen” is now a typhoon, the state weather bureau said on Thursday.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Karen is packing maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 150 kph.
At 10 a.m., Karen was spotted 760 kms east of Infanta, Quezon.
Karen is also expected to bring rains over the western section of Visayas and of Mindanao.
PAGASA said that the storm is not expected to landfall and may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility either Saturday night or Sunday morning.
